The purpose of the Chihuahua Trail Art Show is to generate interest in Lavernia's past and present as a subject for fine art, and to support and encourage local artists.  The Chihuahua Trail Art Show will be held November 8 & 9, 2008.  All of the art is available for purchase.  The juried show is judged by a qualified panel.  Prizes are awarded for First, Second and Third Place.  Honorable Mention awards are also presented.

Local, professional artists are invited to participate by applying prior to August 31, 2008.  Artists are asked to submit at least one work of art in the theme of the show.   Artists may submit up to six works.  The theme for 2007 was "Rural Lavernia and the Cibolo Valley." See photos, below.

The theme for 2008 will be,
 "Nostalgic Memories - Lavernia Old and New"


Artists must live in the general vicinity of La Vernia and be a professional, trained artist willing to sell their work.  Artists are responsible for all taxes on sales.  To apply, please call 830-779-7095, or email us at mail@laverniahistory.com, or write:

Photos from the 2007 Chihuahua Trail Art Show!

Sixteen local artists submitted 85 works of fine art for sale. Mrs. Wilson County, Sara Canady, judges the art while a patron make a decision.  He bought it!  Gary Pursley and Angel Smith enjoyed the Artists' Reception, which was open to the public.

La Vernia Historical Association officers, Lilli, Elaine & Susan always enjoy the Chihuahua Trail Art Show.

First Place winner, Shelley Henderson, for "Mission Grounds".  Yes, it is a painting, not a photo!

Prudi Kinsel placed second for her this beautiful magnolia.

Mrs. Jaksik and Janie enjoy the wine and cheese reception for the artists. One of ten Honorable Mentions was awarded to Vivian Curry. Mrs. Wilson County, Sara Canady and her Mom, Wilson County's hard-working LaJuana Leus, show off one of the auction items they purchased.  Thanks!

Winona Alder shows her work, "Wash Day" which won an Honorable Mention. Martha Lenz, Chihuahua Trail Art Show Chairman, presents awards to the winning artists.  The art was admired by many visitors and artists.
